Shy People Should Have Rights, Too!

Ever wonder why there are rules in classrooms like "No Talking" or "Be quiet while others are speaking?" There are always rules protecting other people's rights to be heard and to speak out. When someone is speaking or reciting, everyone has to listen to them. It is through our silence and attention that we show our respect towards these people.

If this is so, why then don't we have equal rights for people who do not wish to speak out in class? If we respect other people's choice to speak and be heard, shouldn't we respect other people's choice to just listen to what others are saying? The noisy girl in class is chastised for being too talkative while the shy girl is encouraged and at times, FORCED to speak out.

There's nothing wrong with not being verbose. It doesn't necessarily mean that the talkative and more outgoing people learn more than the ones who are not as willing to express themselves. Being short and concise shouldn't be a bad thing.

Some quotes that come to mind are "Brevity is the soul of wit" and "More matter with less art." There is nothing more meaningful than something brief and concise.

Shy people should have rights, too.
